Most Indonesian people still opt for a landed house for living quarters, including those in Surabaya. Given that the price of land to build comfortable housing has soared in recent years, the noted developer Intiland has come up with a brilliant solution: The Rosebay, a low-rise residence with a resort-like character and amazing design. Sitting snugly amid its natural surroundings, the compound offers the essentials for happiness to tenants. The urban dream of a luxurious house in the best location without having to empty the wallet or changing lifestyles can be realized here.

Luxurious by Nature

Story by Anton Adianto | Photo by Bagus Tri Laksono & Intiland Doc.

As a developing metropolis, Surabaya is familiar with the problem of land scarcity, which means that a strategic location is something that is extremely hard to find. This has led to skyrocketing land prices in favoured locations, such as West Surabaya, one of the best residential areas in the capital city of East Java. Since many believe that living in a landed house is more comfortable than a vertical housing compound; Intiland has come up with its latest offering, The Rosebay, a low-rise residential compound featuring a resort ambience that is also nature-friendly.

Starting business 25 years ago by marketing marble and installing its products at construction projects, Bian Niaga Batuan or BNB, has evolved into a major player in the global marble and granite industry. In a class by itself; BNB has developed two buildings in Buduran and Gedangan in Sidoarjo, East Java, to better present its image. The buildings appear quite different from the showrooms or warehouses of the firm’s counterparts in the marble industry–and also feature elements of refined art in their design.

A Fragment of Historical Treasure

Story by Anton Adianto | Photo by Bagus Tri Laksono

Looking back in time can provide us with a rich source of ideas and inspiration which remain relevant today. The design world has a great respect for heritage buildings, including those found in Indonesia, a country rich through the amalgamation of diverse cultures, both local and international. One example of a heritage building that has been kept intact, albeit serving different functions over the years —from a community center to an office, before finally being turned into a hotel— is The Shalimar Boutique Hotel in the city of Malang. Featuring a remarkable design with a strong Dutch colonial touch, just like the original structure, the hotel has been renovated and rearranged in a combination of Peranakan and Javanese styles in order to provide guests with a traditional sense of luxury and comfort.

100 Million Dollar Club Yachts

Story by Anton Adianto

Famed musician David Lee Roth from the heavy metal group Van Halen once made a tongue in cheek comment, “Money can’t buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it.” Long considered the ultimate nautical symbol of wealth and luxury, owning a yacht means having to cough up tens to hundreds millions of dollars to first purchase the boat, and then millions of dollars again to pay for the crew, fuel and maintenance. Many luxury yachts are built at a cost of more than 100 million dollars. Below is a list of the most luxurious ones which are well known for their famous owners, their sheer size and cost and, most importantly, their marvelous designs.
