Story by Anton Adianto | Photo by ANJA Doc.

Bringing together several ideas to produce a single agreed vision is never easy, especially when the viewpoints come from different backgrounds and locations. Yet this is a challenge that is not impossible to deal with, particularly for those who are blessed with creative minds like these six designers from ANJA where the diversity of creative ideas has in fact proved to be a help rather than a hindrance to producing a range of inspirational, fun products that appeal to a wide range of people.

Be Creative! Be Different!

Interview by Anton Adianto | Photo by Adhi Nugraha Doc.

Creativity makes it possible to change an ordinary thing into something remarkable. For a designer, creativity is the compass that shows him where his career is headed. By having creative thoughts we open up possibilities, become smarter and develop a desire to achieve. This is the viewpoint of Adhi Nugraha, a product designer who earned his PhD from Finland’s Aalto University and a co-founder of the Navetta Design Studio. His endless creativity has also driven him to actively reinvigorate ADPII (Aliansi Desainer
Produk Industri Indonesia/Indonesian Alliance of Industrial Designers) with his unique spirit and vision.
The lecturer of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) explained to Anton Adianto that the key words in today’s era of globalization are creativity, networking and collaboration.

DESIGN ON FILM

Unfading Beauty

Story by Anton Adianto

Visual charm in a movie’s interior design is largely influenced by its décor. Impeccable works by art directors and set decorators are keys to bringing out impressive settings that support the essence of the story. Precise furniture placement and detailed ornamentation are some of the major success indicators of a film to present the perfect set design. It is more impressive to note that some production designers in a film have proven to be vastly knowledgeable about interior design as well as history of architecture. It is therefore completely understandable how their works in certain films could inspire a lot of professional interior and product designers in creating their works today.

A Masterpiece in Mediocrity

Story by Anton Adianto | Photo by Asanka Doc.

Devising a well-rounded design that is relatable to all has long been a personal project for Bayu Edward. The Bandung-born young man has been known to fight hard to keep his design philosophy in creating a product. An admirer of Naoto Fukusawa, he always focuses on creating a design that has honesty and spontaneity at its core, thus making it an original creation. Another one of his wishes is to set up a one stop shop for designed furniture and home décor for the local market. Through ASANKA, he has designed and produced his best works that are rife with the local characteristics of Indonesia — a step towards making his dreams a reality.
