Art is Not Just a Three-Letter Word

Being born and raised within a strong artistic family has made Butet Kartaredjasa stick close to the world that has etched a deep inﬂuence in his life. His beloved hometown Yogyakarta also plays an inexorable part of his daily life. His affection for the city runs deep in his veins, stemming from his childhood, and it is safe to say that this strong feeling will not be easily inﬂuenced by the global capitalism that has taken hold of our civilization. During a friendly chat with Anton Adianto, the man who prefers to call himself ‘an art worker’ talks about how he balances art and business, as well as the characteristics of the people of Yogyakarta and the city’s profound culture and tradition.
