For several years now, the name Nyoman Nuarta and sculptures have been inseparable. Even people who don’t consider themselves art buffs know him by reputation. Born in Tabanan, Bali, he is famous as one of Indonesia’s fathers of sculptures. His masterpieces stand proud in many parts of the country, the most phenomenal and long-awaited one being Garuda Wisnu Kencana, a giant statue featuring awe-inspiring and meticulous details. The long-time resident of Bandung shares how the art of sculpture has taken root inside him, from the time he was exposed to the art world until today.

This article was published in the Indonesia Design magazine (11thAnniversary Edition) in 2014.
